The proclamation of the Word of God is truly a ministry in the Church. Lectors bring the living Word of God to the people. In and through them, God speaks to the gathered at mass.
Lectors are trained and provided with documented guidelines. A love of the Scriptures and good public speaking skills are desirable. Each lector receives a book which allows her/him to fully prepare for their scheduled times to read. Most lectors will read about once a month and lectors can specify the mass(es) they are available to read. For holy days, lectors sign up to read if they are available to read.
