St.
Catharine Parish welcomes you
to our warm, Christ-centered community!

Our
History
In the early 1950's, many communities in the northern
towns of New Jersey were growing fast. On January 28,
1953, Archbishop Thomas A. Boland promulgated a decree
in the Archdiocese of Newark for the formation of a
new parish to serve the fast-growing communities of
Fair Lawn and Glen Rock. It was determined the new parish
would be located on the site of a former celery farm
in the Borough of Glen Rock and have St. Catharine as
a patron.
Charter
Members
Catholics living in the northern section of Fair Lawn
who worshiped at St. Anne in Fair Lawn and Catholics
living in Glen Rock who worshiped at Our Lady of Mt.
Caramel in Ridgewood would be the first members - the
charter parishioners - of St. Catharine Church.
Saint
Catharine
- Our Patron Saint
Saint Catharine was a virgin martyr from Alexandria,
Egypt. Her espousal to Christianity is attributed to
a vision of Christ. Born to the royal court, she persuaded
the Empress to become a Christian against the Emperor's
wishes. For this, she was tortured and decapitated on
November 24, or 25 305. The earliest evidence of devotion
to her appears in an Italian 8th century painting. St.
Catharine is the patroness of some 30 groups, including
philosophers and maidens. She is portrayed with a book
or plume, a crown, and a wheel symbolizing her knowledge,
royal birth, and martyrdom.
Our

Our parish today consists of approximately 2,400 families
and single adult parishioners. We are a lively Christ-centered
community with more than 40 ministries,
groups, and organizations active within our parish
community. Our parochial school, Academy
or Our Lady, offers quality educational opportunities
for students in Pre-K through Grade 8.
